The Andamans

Three destinations: Port Blair, Baratang and Havelock; 9 days.
Trip to the Andamans has been one of my best trips so far. A must visit. We short listed three places based on our sources.
Day1: Bangalore -> Port Blair. Cellular jail
Day2: Baratang: Parrot Island
Day3: Baratang: Limestone caves, Mud volcano and Balu-dera beach.
Day4: Baratang -> Port Blair – Anthropology Museum -> Havelock.
Day5: Havelock: Snorkeling at South button and Henry Lawrence.
Day6: Havelock: Radhanagar beach in the morning, wandering around Havelock, visit to Kala-patther beach.
Day7: Havelock: Scuba diving at light house and back to Port Blair.
Day8: North Bay and Viper islands.
Day9: Ross Island and back to Bangalore.

Day1: Our journey started with the 6am flight from Bangalore to Port Blair. We reached at about 1pm. Checked into a hotel called Shompen. A decent hotel with clean bathrooms! ;-) and at the centre of the city. We booked tickets for Baratang for the next day with government bus. The booking for ship to Havelock starts 3 days earlier. We were lucky that we were going to Baratang the next day, so that we had time to book tickets for Havelock. We got our bookings done for Havelock accordingly for both to and fro journey from the reservation office at Shompen. They were very helpful.
Then that afternoon we started off with our visit to the Cellular jail, which closes at 5pm. But they open again only for the light show at 5:30pm.

Day2: 9:45am bus to Baratang. On the way to Baratang lies the Jarawah reserve. If you are lucky then you can see few of them, we were lucky both the times, towards and on the way back. We had our bookings at the Dew Dale resort here. The staff here is very friendly and they arranged for a cab for site seeing with one of their friends and that worked out to be the best. We visited the Parrot Island.
Day3: The days in this part of India starts very early and there is light by 4:30am. Though we got up late and started off our day at 8:30am. We visited the limestone caves and then back to hotel. Later that day the guy took us to the Mud volcano and the Balu-dera beach. Nice beach with hardly anyone but us. Supposedly this was destroyed during Tsunami.
Day4: We came back to Port Blair and the Havelock Ship was at 2pm. So we visited the Anthropology museum. You could buy pearls here as it is a government store you might not be duped. Then we started off to Havelock and had a wonderful 2 hours ship journey.
Day5: We stayed at the dooms of Dolphin resort right on the Radhanagar beach. Wonderful beach to hang-out and swim-in. Do not miss it. The day started off with morning walk at this beach and then we reached the Barefoot office from where we started off for Snorkeling, which we booked on the earlier day. It was almost a day’s activity with Snorkeling at South button and Henry Lawernce. This is one experience to remember.
Day6: No activity today as we had forgot to book for Scuba diving on day 5. So we roamed around, hired a two wheeler and visited various other beaches. We also booked for Scuba dive on the next day.
Day7: Started off for Scuba diving. Had a wonderful experience with diving and then started off to Port Blair at 4pm. Reached Hotel Rishab and had some nice beer and dosed off. A very nice place to stay in.
Day8: Early morning this day we took a trip to North Bay and Viper islands. Ross Island is closed on Wednesdays.
Day9: I personaly did not want to miss Ross Island, so we took a trip to Ross Island early in the morning which was over by 10pm. and then we had to catch the flight back to Bangalore at 12:15pm.
Overall the trip was a wonderful experience and a must visit. Hope this information helps you guys who are planning for a trip to Andaman. I did not have so much of info before traveling, so I thought I must share my experience. Have a nice trip ;-)
